thanks for yer housing op-ed, another issue is that all of that new big-box housing is going to pull value out of the older rundown housing stock around the campus costing tax income and likely leading to a rise in section-8 housing which is not bad in and of itself except in other college towns this has led to less maintenance by slumlords and class/race tensions as the only times wealthy students/yuppies and poorer folks are likely to directly interact is around issues like crime as cars and all get broken into.
Given state control over most taxation and wages and the like as well as the mounting covid austerity things aren’t likely going to get better via city hall and if the university has to shut down things are going to get very grim very fast, we need to develop coops for housing, childcare and the like and the sooner the better, cheers.
